Da’Naia Jackson is playing in our faces.

It’s really the audacity for us. Last week Da’Naia Jackson, the wife of scandal embroiled, self-proclaimed “relationship guru” Derrick Jaxn, shared her version of the demise of the couple’s marriage on the Dear Future Wifey podcast.

It really was a stroke of genius.

Mrs. Jackson sat on the yellow couch well-coiffed, poised and media trained. Her responses to the interviewer’s questions hit all the right notes – she was humorous, vulnerable, self-deprecating, and apparently self-aware.

She was also one thing that many might have missed – all business.

You see, Da’Naia Jackson casually announced her premium-priced “Infidelity Recovery” coaching package during the broadcast. After using the platform the rehab her image (more on that later), she set her brand new business up for a major cash infusion on launch day.

Here’s how she did it – and why you shouldn’t fall for it.

The Death of a Marriage…or, Is It?

According to a variety of sources, Derrick Jaxn filed for divorce from his estranged wife Da’Naia around December 2022.

In the Dear Future Wifey broadcast, Da’Naia informed the host that she has since counter-filed on the basis of infidelity. Despite this, at the time of this writing, the couple is still married. This is an important detail.

Per Da’Naia, the two have been estranged before due to Derrick’s infidelity and poor behavior as a husband. They reconciled.

Given that the couple is not yet divorced, and Da’Naia has spent little to no time in secular, professional therapy – with a fully licensed clinician – to address the trauma of her husband’s continual betrayal and the alleged demise of her marriage, how can she command such high coaching fees?

The Cult of “Celebrity:” How Da’Naia Jackson Will Profit From Black Women’s Pain

Everybody loves a redemption story.

It’s one of the oldest tricks in marketing. First, you tell your audience how down you were – you share how you were broken by life and almost gave up.

Somehow, you “discovered” the secret to success in some area – relationships, weight loss, whatever solution you’re selling.

Then, you hit them with the pitch. “If I can do this, anyone can! Let me show you how to do XYZ for the low, low price of $1,995.”

That’s how Da’Naia Jackson will become a millionaire off the heartbreak of black women.

Dear Future Wifey was necessary to rehab her image (Helmet of Salvation, anyone?) and reach a captive segment of her target audience – Christian, African-American women.

Over the past few years, that same audience had witnessed Da’Naia behaving in some unusual ways.

From sitting stone-faced next to her husband while he confessed his cheating ways to the internet, to reciting Biblical curses and testing a rap career, she hadn’t built a reputation women could trust to coach or lead them.

By appearing on the program poised, coherent, and professional, Da’Naia set herself up to capitalize on the pain of thousands of Black women who share a similar story.

She’s now the poster child for the post-cheating “glow up” of the long-suffering Black Christian wife.

It’s a Scam.

The trouble here is that, despite all that Da’Naia Jackson claims has happened in her marriage, it likely isn’t over.

In the six months since the original divorce filing, Da’Naia admits the proceeding hasn’t progressed.

Given the couple’s track record, this moment of vulnerability is likely a marketing strategy to launch Da’Naia’s platform and extract more profit from Derrick’s current and former fanbase – many of whom lost faith in his expert advice after learning of his ongoing infidelity.

There’s a very real possibility that Derrick and Da’Naia will follow the blueprint of other Christian “celebrity” couples and reconcile. Being married may prove far too profitable to proceed with a divorce.

Where would that leave Da’Naia’s potential coaching clients?

How Affinity Scams Work

An affinity scam is a scheme where con artists or marketers target a specific group based on a particular aspect of the groups identity.

In this case, Da’Naia (and likely her husband Derrick behind-the-scenes) are targeting Black women how have experienced the pain of infidelity.

In order for the scam to work, Da’Naia needed her potential audience to identify with her in a way that connects them to her story.

Remember the line about a redemption story earlier?

She needed you to see yourself in her, and believe that she’s overcome her pain. This positions her as coach, guru, or gatekeeper to some insight that’s worth paying for. Don’t fall for it.

How to Heal From Infidelity without Getting the Shaft.

If you’re dealing with trauma or emotional challenges after infidelity, Da’Naia’s questionable coaching program won’t help.

What will likely help you is seeking the skills of a competent, licensed therapist who specializes in this area.

You’ll get professional guidance, resources, and actionable steps you can take to reclaim control of your life. Work with someone with results rather than a profit motive.

It’ll probably be cheaper, too. Just saying.

Wrapping Up

Though we feel for Da’Naia Jackson’s plight and hope she fully recovers from the trauma she’s suffered, we don’t think she’s equipped to coach others at this point – especially at those prices.
